A New Memoir of Inherited Faith
Greatly Disappointed
Has your certainty ever felt heavier than the questions?
Greatly Disappointed is one Adventist's journey following certainty to its logical ends, and the harder, quieter faith waiting on the other side.
For those who grew up certain, but aren't anymore.

THE JOURNEY
Greatly Disappointed follows my journey as an African American attorney raised in the Bible Belt inside the Seventh-day Adventist church: a world where every day was a race against an invisible clock toward Christian perfectionism, church building, and an impending apocalypse that would one day leave me and my family fugitives from a hostile world.
Faced with the unbearable weight of those expectations, I trace the pathways that produced them through the eyes of a child, a teenager, and ultimately the attorney I became. In searching for the God of love, I found instead a god more cosmic accountant than friend.
Part confession, part case file, Greatly Disappointed arrives at an uncomfortable verdict: certainty was the wound, and that losing it may be the only way to everything worth having.
